The wedding

5 12 2010

I. AM. GETTING. MARRIED. ! ! !

You all know this from facebook and the invitations, but I just had too much emotion to keep quiet. This is quite something… I have found the love of my life and soon we will be exchanging our wedding vows and God will unite us for forever! May our union be blessed! May we cherish each other and love each other the way we deserve every second of our united lives. I am soon to be Mrs. Meelis Kiisk…

I love you, my penguin! You make me SO unbelievably happy!!!

European Championships

19 03 2010

Just a week ago we got back from Norway, where this year’s European Championships in air guns were held. Actually, our accomodation was in Sweden, so we  crossed the border to get to the range daily. It was great fun to be shooting at the Europeans again. I could have done better, but I still very much appreciate the experience. On top of that, it was my first larger competition that I could go to with Meelis and it made it extra special. It has been 6 years since I last shot at the Europeans and it was my first time to shoot in women’s, not junior women’s, class. I came in 51st out of 54 with the result of 362, Meelis came in 49th out of 61 with the result of 577.

We took a ferry from Tallinn to Stockholm and them drove (we went in our car) for about 9-10 h to get to our hotel. Next day we checked out the range and Meelis had his training. The day after that he competed, then the next day I had my training the day after that I competed, so it worked out well for us. On our way back we decided not to stay another day in Sweden (we thought we had to since there were no room on a ferry to Tallinn on Saturday) and we came back through Riga. It was extra 170 km but we saved a day and I could go to work the next day, so in the end, it worked out well. And by the way, Meelis has uploaded some pics from our trip and you can all check them out at http://kiisk.wordpress.com/2010/03/18/emi-pildid/

Our spring break just started today and I’m looking forward to some rest while the students are out of school. I have tons of papers to correct, but at least I have a week to do that in peace and quiet. One more term to go until the end of the school year…

Valentine’s day

14 02 2010

Happy Valentine’s Day! In Estonian, also known as “Friend’s Day”…I like that synonym for this day. It is to celebrate love and friends.

To be honest, I didn’t like today…… I feel blue today……………….. but more Valentine’s Days to come…

Be merry!

Kat (im a kittykat, and i dancedancedance and i dancedance dance :P)

8 02 2010

I’m feeding my sister’s cat! She is cute and all, but my sister left for work for two weeks and didn’t even ASK me if I would be so nice and fed her cat. She just “made other arrangements” and LEFT. And now I’m feeding the cat, otherwise the poor thing will starve for there is NO-ONE to feed it! Why am I so nice?? I don’t particularly mind, she is the cutest thing (when used to strangers), but still….what IN THE  WORLD was my sister thinking!?!?!?!?!

This is actually the thought for the week :) I’m a boring person, I know :D

Cheers!

English language contest

31 01 2010

MY STUDENT WON THE THING!!!!!!! Remember the contest I was telling you about in my last blog, well one of my students won it!!!!!!!!! Now I’m REALLY gonna get the credit :D I’m very very happy and very proud of my student!

külmapühad….

31 01 2010

…rougly translated as “snow days”, but not really. It’s more like “cold days”,  literally translated as “cold holiday” or a holiday of cold, meaning that it was TOO cold to go to school! Seriously, if in the States we had snow days which meant that the school was closed due to a huge amount of snow, then here kids were allowed to stay home because it was simply too cold for them to come to school. Wednesday and Thursday were  like that. On Wednesday it was -18 degrees F (-28 degrees C) and though on Thursday the temperature was slightly higher, the icy wind made it feel even colder. Some kids were brave enough to show up at school, but as so many of other students were absent, we couldn’t really do anything in class, so in the end it seemed like punishing those who had come: they had to come and all for nothing. Why don’t they just have a weather hotline like they do at Garrett? Some kind of notification in case it’s too cold, then no-one has to come and risk catching a cold! I should talk to someone about that….

Other than that, yesterday was an interesting day for me. First of all, my first highlight as a teacher was that 2 of my students were sent to an English language contest. I’m still waiting for the results…so exciting. Of course, I have nothing to do with their English being brilliant..it just is because they are :) But I still get all the credit because I’m their teacher :P Yesterday was also fun in that although my students were competing, I wouldn’t have been allowed to be there anyway, so I competed myself instead. We went to Narva for a shooting match, and although it was for the Juniors, I went along for a practice match and I was really pleased…I worked hard. Meelis came in 3rd but we both know he could have done much better. But I’m still very proud of him!

That’s it for now…

Slimy greetings from this end…

24 01 2010

…slimy indeed for I am cursed with a running nose and a sore throat….cursed forever, it seems. I’m seriously considering going to Tallinn to have some blood tests taken. This is not at all normal. Almost every night I have a fever and I’m sooo drained out of energy this is not even funny….. I’ll have to think about it, and I’ll let you know how it goes with that.

The highlight of this week was certainly our shooting. Well, not so much mine as Meelis’. We had a shooting rally this week-end shooting 2 matches, one on Saturday and then another one on Sunday. It worked out well for us as we could stay overnight at Meelis’ grandma near Haapsalu and then set off the next day to Pärnu-Jaagupi. This was the first time I met his grandma from dad’s side. Interesting, we’ve been dating for a year and a half now (Meelis and I that is :D ) and we never got a chance to visit his grandma. But finally it’s done and I would like to think it went well. However, even more important than that was Meelis’ personal best shot on Saturday!!! His 588 is just fabulous and he outshot his previous PB by 2 points. I hope this is not the end of it this year….he has a lot of potential (if only I could get him do his morning stretches and exercises… :P ). In any case, he deserved to win that match and we are both very happy and I am oh so proud of him! We don’t know the very final results yet, but I think I won that match as well, although my first series was a pathetic 88 :( , it picked up after that, but still, I know I could do better. 367 was the final score for me (88, 93, 93, 93). Today (Sunday), however, I managed to shoot better than the day before. I was the only one from our club shooters to improve the next day, others dropped some. I got a 371 (91, 93, 93, 94). This is not too bad, but I def. hope I can yet improve my shooting. If only I could control my nerves during competition… In any case, Meelis and I both came in second today.

Other than that, work is good, the weather is cold, and it’s time for bed :D

See ya next week!

Ode to winter

16 01 2010

Hello everybody!

It’s been again a while, but I have been either sick or busy, so I hope you forgive me.

First of all and most importantly I have to say that we’re enjoying the prettiest winter of all times! I don’t remember when I’ve seen such beautiful winter weather! One night, when we were coming back from my mom’s birthday, the trees were actually glistening and it was one of the most beautiful winter sights I’ve ever seen! Yesterday we finally had a chance to drive around a little bit enjoying the beauty.

Our Christmas break is over and I’m back at work. I can’t complain, it’s all going well, except I wish I would get over my everlasting cold :( But I’m trying to get enough rest so I have the energy to work and to go shooting. Great news for me is that Meelis and I have decided to go to the European Championships to Meraker, Norway in March. We will drive there and it’s going to be veeeeeery pricey, but I trust it will also be a looot of fun and so totally worth the expense! It’s been a while since I got to compete at the high level. I’m not expecting super results, but I’m looking forward to the experience.

Us getting ready...

I’ve finally received my diploma, but I have to send it back because it has a typo on it :D Such a fail on the part of the University of Manchester :D Aaaanyway…

Right now I’m watching cross country skiing World Cup, it’s held in Estonia this week-end and everybody is really excited about that. Meelis is catching up with his second greatest love (I hope) – his computer :P Alright then, I’ll get back to skiing now. Men 15 km. Estonians will hopefully kick ass :D Go Andrus! :) ….. While I was uploading pics, the race finished. Bauer won, but Veerpalu (EST) and Mae (EST) were 2nd and 3rd! Yay!

Fireworks

26 12 2009

Somebody is shooting fireworks right now and I thought, well, I could tell you about my Christmas while it’s all so festive here :)

Christmas was rather nice, I have to say, a bit painful as my nose is so swollen I have trouble breathing, but it was still nice to spend some time with the relatives. On the Christmas Eve we went to Meelis’ mom and had a huge Christmas meal with his side of the family. On the 25th we all gathered at our place with my uncle and his family coming over for Christmas. Now I’m really looking forward to some rest!!! Today was a really lazy day, but I needed that!! We slept till past 10, ate (well, all we do around Christmas is eat :P ), watched a movie with a friend who came over, and ate again :) It’s really nice and warm here at the apartment since Meelis brought a heater over!!! It was SO cold before! No wonder I was sick! I am really looking forward to getting better! Tomorrow we’re going to sleep in again and just take it easy. In the evening we are going to a Christmas concert to Rapla. I’m looking forward to the music, but I’m not looking forward to be cold again :S I hope it’s nice and warm in Rapla’s church where the concert is going to be held. On Monday I’m going to see my doctor, so fingers crossed I don’t have anything serious.

I would like to finish my post by saying that my Christmas wish came true…..the Christmas this year was white!

Yellow!

23 12 2009

Bad news. I’m sick. Really sick. I feel horrible. My nose is all swollen and it’s really not a great feeling to have. The good news is that the school term is over and I hope I can take some time off to get better. I was given permission to work from home for a couple of days after the holidays before the school starts…..cuz otherwise I won’t make it till the end of the schoolyear….I’ve GOT to get better! Yea, I’ve worn myself out big time :( and now I’m being punished for not taking care of myself.

Christmas time is upon us…… Strangely, I don’t feel very christmasy at all :S I sang Christmas songs with my French students on Monday and some really beautiful Christmas carols with my English students on Tuesday. That was quite nice and precious. When we sang What Child Is This I really thought of Jess! I remembered the beautiful time we went caroling with Mountain View’ers that one winter. That was precious. And Jess, my dear Jess, she loved that song! And I remember how sincerely she sang it! All I needed to do in my classroom was close my eyes and stand there next to her……oh that brought a smile to my face. Jess, merry Christmas!

On a totally different note, we just got our bathroom finished. We repainted it and placed a new floor covering. We started in September, actually,  but we were so busy (and lazy when not busy) that we just finished it today. In fact, I was in the middle of this post when Meelis asked me to help him with placing the floor covering. He is putting together the new lamp we got for the bathroom. I want to say the bathroom looks nice, but it doesn’t, really. We’re crappy craftspeople :D It sure looks better than before, but it’s definitely not perfect. Oh well, practice makes perfect, doesn’t it?

Oh, I just remembered. I got a really cute present from my kids today! They gave me a shirt with our (funny) class picture on it (just to explain, first we take a nice-looking photo with the class,

then there’s a photo where they all go crazy and do what they want :P ). I really loved the present.

Other than that, as I don’t feel all too christmasy I’m not really looking forward to all the upcoming Christmas jazz…I’m too tired to celebrate anything. Yesterday, instead of going to our high-school Christmas party, I slept for 4 hours while Meelis was out in the evening. Today, I slept for 3 hours after I got home from school instead of going for Christmas visits. I think I’m getting old…..well no….no none of that yet, I’m just SICK and not more…..riiiiight :P

Anyway, I’m now gonna go back to being miserable. Should be going to bed soon, I hope.

Oh I just remembered, if I haven’t told you yet, I passed my dissertation with a Merit, so I got a Merit on my degree too. Yay! Well, I haven’t really got my diploma yet (I didn’t go to my graduation, too expensive and I had to work), but I’ll let you know once I do. Oh, I think they messed up with the degree name on the diploma, as stated the email I received from the uni,  so even once I get my diploma, I have to send it back :D haha!

I think I’m starting to talk crazy rubbish, so I better stop now!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, everybody!!
